Crossroads Properties  Newsletter

February 2013
The Crossroads Properties team has been busy working with new and existing tenants in recent weeks to create plans for suites to meet their changing business needs.  You will notice many build-outs and remodels in our buildings in the coming weeks. In addition, we are in the planning process for the sixth and final building in the Crossroads Commerce Center project (watch for details on this project in the next newsletter).

We are excited to announce a change in our trash hauler to Troje’s Trash.  They are a locally owned company with goals consistent with those of Crossroads Properties and many of our tenants. See below for additional details.

Congratulations to Greg Dittrich from Dittrich Law Firm who was the winner of the quote drawing from our last newsletter.  As many of you did, he provided the correct answer to the riddle: “IC”.   He will receive a gift certificate for one free oil service at Metric Auto Works.

 Tips for “going green”

With more and more emphasis being placed on “going green” these days, let us help you get started with a few easy ways to Go Green both in your office and home.

  • Turn down the thermostat – most households use 50-70% of their energy budgets on heating and cooling.
  • Sign up for online bill payments – save on paper, stamps and late fees!
  • Turn your computers off at night or use a sleep timer on your TV. This saves wear on your hardware and also about $90 a year by shutting down at night.
  • Use cold water on your laundry, most loads don’t need hot water anyway.
  • Print two sided when possible.
  • Stop idling your car – just 10 seconds of idling uses more gas than starting your car.
  • Switch to fluorescent bulbs.
  • Use a reusable bottle for water instead of buying bottled water.
  • Use services to opt out of junk mail and paper phone books.
  • Use reusable bags.
  • Use rechargeable batteries.

Myth: There is very little that my team can do to make the workplace more energy efficient. Besides, we don’t have time or money to focus on it.

Fact: Companies and organizations that are leaders in energy efficiency use about 30% less energy than their competitors.
Saving energy might be the easiest way you can help your workplace reduce operating costs,  Reducing energy use can be as simple as turning off lights when you leave a room, unplugging devices that aren’t in use and making sure that doors are closed tightly. And, the more people that use these tips, the more you’ll save.

 Community Service Opportunity

A group from Crossroads Properties is planning to participate in a meal packing event on Thursday February 21st from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.   We would love to have as many tenants as possible join us for this great event.  Meals will be sent to Haiti and to the east coast for Hurricane Sandy relief.  This is a great opportunity to help fight hunger locally and around the world and have fun while doing it.

  • The event is held at the Anderson Windows Headquarters at 5509 Omaha Ave N in Oak Park Heights.
  • There is a fee of $20 minimum donation per person participating to cover the cost of the supplies.
  • To reserve a spot with our group, click here to send an email with the names of each person participating as soon as possible.

Please spread the word to all employees, family members, friends etc.   All ages are welcome as long as they can handle the two  hour shift.
